Unit 1: Chemistry of Life
This will set the stage for all learning throughout the course. Students will learn about water's properties and the structure and functions of biomolecules.
Unit 2: Cell Structure & Function
Students will learn about cellular subcomponents, cell transport, plasma membranes, and compartmentalization.
Unit 3: Cellular Energetics
Students will learn about metabolic energy, enzymes sturcture and function, and the compelexities of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Unit 4: Cell Communication and Cycle
Students will learn about signal transduction, how the cell communicates with itself and other cells, and how it regulates it's life cycle.
Unit 5: Heredity
Students will learn about meiosis, modern genetics, and the chromosomal basis of inheritance
Unit 6: Gene Expression and Regulation
Students will learn about the molecular basis of inheritance, gene regulation, and how we can use biotechnology to study genetics and mutations.
Unit 7: Natural Selection
Students will learn more in depth about the different mechanisms in evolution and subtopics relating to evolution.
Unit 8: Ecology
Students will learn about interactions within ecosystems and between other organisms. It will cover a more in depth learning on cause-and-effect relationships in ecosystems.
